Five SMU Student-Athletes Bound For The 2022 NCAA Men’s Swimming And Diving Championships

03.21.22

IRVING, Texas SMU will be well represented at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. Five Mustang student-athletes are included in the expected meet field that is scheduled to run from March 23-26 at the McCauley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech. Live coverage of event finals will begin each night at 6 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3.

Colin Feehery qualified for three individual events that include the 200 IM (March 24), 400 IM (March 25) and 200 breaststroke (March 26). Reigning American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Cotton Fields is expected to join Feehery in both IM prelims and added a qualifying time in the 200 backstroke (March 26). 2022 American Most Outstanding Swimmer Caleb Rhodenbaugh will compete in both the 100 breaststroke (March 25) and alongside Feehery in the 200 breaststroke. Conference most outstanding diver Peter Smithson punched his ticket to both the 3-meter (March 25) and platform (March 26) diving events, and Parker Hardigree will take place in 1-meter diving (March 24).

The five separate student-athletes from the same team to qualify for individual events at the NCAA Championships are the most by any member swimming and diving team from The American since Louisville sent eight individuals and five total relay entries to the 2014 national meet and placed 11th overall. Both Smithson and Rhodenbaugh will make their second straight NCAA Championships appearances after competing in the 2021 NCAA meet in Greensboro, North Carolina.
