IRVING, Texas – A pair of standout American Athletic Conference men’s golf student-athletes closed the 2022 season as Division I PING All-Americans, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). South Florida junior and reigning American Player of the Year Albin Bergstrom and SMU senior and 2021 conference player of the year Noah Goodwin each landed on the Division I PING All-America Honorable Mention team.
The unanimous 2022 American Player of the Year, Bergstrom was ranked 45th nationally by Golfstat in the June 2 rankings after South Florida wrapped up play at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship finals in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bergstrom logged eight top-10 finishes during the season, including a share of fifth place at the American Men’s Golf Championship at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Florida. Bergstrom fired 30 rounds at par or better, including 19 of his total 39 rounds completed finishing in the 60s, and logged an average score of 70.21 over 13 starts.
Goodwin, a first-team All-America choice in 2021, capped his final SMU season ranked 41st by Golfstat on the heels of a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Bryan Regional. Goodwin captured SMU’s Trinity Forest Invitational with rounds of 67-65-66=198 for his third career collegiate victory and added four other top-10 results to his senior campaign, which included a fourth-place showing at the American Men’s Golf Championship. Goodwin recorded 22 rounds at par or better and finished in the 60s on 13 different occasions to post a 70.58 scoring average across 11 tournaments.
