STORRS, Conn. – Three goals from three different goal scorers and an explosive second half pushed the Charlotte men's soccer team past UCONN, 3-1, in the 49ers season opener.

The 49ers saw senior Kameron Lacey, senior Alex Willis and junior Jonathan Nyandjo find the back of the net, while senior Koby Carr tallied two assists and newbie Filip Jauk assisted on Willis' go-ahead goal early in the second half.

Charlotte opened its 2022 season with a bang as Lacey pounced on a through ball from Willis less than five minutes in and calmly slotted it home to the keepers right to give CLT an early, 1-0, advantage.

Eventually the Huskies found their feet, with Scott Testori equalizing on a bouncing ball off a corner just past the half hour mark to even proceedings at, 1-1.

Off a deflected ball just outside the 18, Carr combined with Jauk into the penalty box, before Jauk slotted a ball across the face of goal for Willis to cooly tap in, regaining the Niners one goal advantage.

Less than five minutes later, Nyandjo doubled CLT's advantage, leaping onto a long ball played into the attacking third, before cutting inside the box and smashing one past the far post.

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Tulsa notched a 4-2 victory over Marquette Thursday (Aug. 25) on the road at Valley Fields in the season opener.
 
Tulsa got on the board when Marquette knocked in an own goal in the 30th minute.
 
The Golden Hurricane added another score on a goal from Sergio Baena -- his first goal of the season -- in the 34th minute, assisted by Mitchell Cashion.
 
Tulsa built its lead to 3-0 on Thomas Wells' 54th-minute goal, his first of the season. Luke Jeffus assisted the goal.
 
The Golden Eagles made it a 3-1 match with a 65th-minute goal from Lukas Sunesson.
 
Tulsa expanded its lead to make it a 4-1 game on Alex Meinhard's first goal of the season in the 84th minute, assisted by Tom Protzek.
 
The Golden Eagles narrowed the Golden Hurricane's lead to 4-2 thanks to an 90th-minute goal from Edrey Caceres, assisted by Abdoul Karim Pare.

Philadelphia, Penn. – The Temple men’s soccer team notched a 1-0 win over Lehigh at the Temple Sports Complex on Thursday night to secure a season-opening win.
 
A quick goal from Yann Kouemi at the six-minute marker was the difference maker as Kouemi scored off an assist from Mike Eijgendaal.
 
Lehigh got off their shots, but Eoin Gawronski was masterful at the net as he finished with five saves on the night to keep the clean sheet.

DALLAS, Texas – SMU men's soccer team opened its season in convincing fashion, earning a 4-0 shutout victory over Oral Roberts on Thursday night at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.
 
Jose Ortiz led the way for the Mustangs with a three-goal performance opening the season, scoring in the first 22 seconds of play.
 
Shortly after, in the 10th minute, Ortiz scored off a diving header assisted by Alexander Petraeus and Henry Howell. Ortiz completed the hat trick in the 64th minute after cashing in on a penalty kick.
 
Just before the halftime break, freshman Elton Hedstrom scored his first collegiate goal, heading one in the left side of the net from a Kyran Pinho and Roman Knox assist.

South Florida 0, FGCU 0Box Score
TAMPA, Fla. – After a two-hour and 43-minute weather delay the University of South Florida men's soccer team finally had the opportunity to kick off its 2022 regular season on Thursday against instate foe Florida Gulf Coast University however had to settle for a scoreless draw following a physical defensive battle.
 
Both teams combined for 25 fouls and 20 yellow cards while only totaling 17 shots for the 90-minute match.
 
In a tale of two halves, FGCU controlled the first 45 minutes outshooting the Bulls 6-2, including a 3-0 margin in shots on goal. South Florida came back in the second half and dominated offensively with eight shots while only holding the Eagles to one shot in the final 45.
 
Goalkeeper Jackson Weyman had four saves for his first shutout as a Bull and the third of his career, including his time at Maquette.
 
No. 15/19 Wake Forest 1, UCF 0Box Score
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UCF men's soccer team dropped their season opener on the road against No. 15 Wake Forest by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night.

The score was 0-0 through the first 45 minutes, with Wake Forest tallying four shot attempts in the first 11 minutes. At the end of the opening half, the Demon Deacons had outshot the Knights 9-3, but the shots on goal were a much closer 3-2 margin in favor of Wake Forest. Freshman Juanvi Muñoz made a trio of saves on some good chances by the opposition but made sure to keep the zero on the scoreboard at the break.

Wake Forest opened the second half with a quick goal as Hosei Kijima slipped his way through the defense and pushed a header just past Muñoz in the 48th minute. Oscar Sears and Jahlane Forbes earned assists on the goal.

UCF battled until the final whistle, creating a last-minute flurry in the Wake Forest 18-yard box. Nothing came of the chance, ending the match in a 1-0 final. The Knights were outshot by just one in the second half, with Wake Forest owning a 6-5 lead in shot attempts.

Muñoz made five saves in his collegiate debut, coming up with a pair of saves in the second half to try and keep his team in it following the goal.

The Knights have dropped their fourth straight season opener, falling to the Demon Deacons twice in that stretch. UCF lost 2-1 to then-No. 6 Wake Forest in 2019 and again on Thursday night as the No. 15 team in the country. The Black and Gold are now 0-4 all-time against the Demon Deacons, with all meetings being played in Winston-Salem. 
 
Akron 5, No. 18/23 FIU 3Box Score
MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU men’s soccer team dropped the season opener on Thursday night 5-3 to Akron at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
 
Akron jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following scores from Joel Sangwa (2’) and Johnny Fitzgerald (16’).
 
FIU got one back at the 37’ mark  with a score from Fumiya Shiraishi, but the Zips answered with a goal from Jason Shokalook (42’) just before half.
 
Four goals were scored in the final seven minutes of the match as FIU and Akron alternated goals.  Paulo Alves (83’) scored the second goal from the Panthers, but Shokalook (84’) scored his second of the match for FIU.
 
Stephen Afrifa (85’) put the third ball in the net for FIU before Stefan Dobrijevic (88’) made the final goal of the match for the Zips.

Memphis 5, Queens 0 Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers flexed their muscles today as they secured a 5-0 win over Queens University in their season-opening match.
 
Hayden Anderson netted the first goal of the season in the 19' off a rebounded shot that Queens goalkeeper, Javier Cuervo, saved initially.
 
Memphis got another goal in the opening half when Anderson found Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos to make it a 2-0 Tigers advantage.
 
The Tigers would get one more goal before the break when Marcus Larikka found Jovan Prado to connect with Memphis' third goal of the game.
 
Emanuel Santos and Alberto Cruz rounded out scoring for the Tigers when they both found the back of the net in the 53' and 78', respectively.
 
UAB 2, Charleston 0 – Box Score
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s soccer team picked up a season opening win on Friday night, defeating the College of Charleston 2-0 at PNC Field.
 
The Blazers got on the board early with a score from Nathaniel St. Louis at the six-minute mark. Brooks Rice set up the goal.
 
UAB would pick up another score at the 22-minute mark with a goal off the foot of Brooks Rice, who was assisted by Curtis DeLeon.
