The SMU, Houston and Tulsa cross country programs competed in Invitationals this weekend with all finishing with top three finishes. SMU won the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational, while the Houston men finished second and the women finished third at the Rice Invitational, and Tulsa women finished second at the Rice Invitational.
For SMU, Maddie Hulcy held the second position the entire race and completed in the 5k in a time of 17:38 – holding a pace of 5:39 per mile.
Kaitlyn Gearin ran a time of 17:53.8 crossing the line in third place. Shortly behind was Alanis Robineau Fauvey and Leoni Mierswa in fourth and fifth. Macey Hilton placed seventh in her college debut with a time of 18:22.6 with Jessie Crowley only two seconds behind in eighth. Nikoleta Rafailaki placed 15th.
The team placed first with only 21 points and an average time of 18:01.4.
At the Rice Invitational, the Houston women were led by Claire Meyer, pacing the ladies with a 14 minutes 10.4 second time across the 4k course, fast enough to finish third overall and first among American Athletic Conference competitors at the meet.
For the second-straight meet, junior Macie Ellis crossed second for Houston, crossing the tape in 10:29.7, good for seventh overall. All five of the Cougars' five scoring competitors placed inside the top 15.
Seagreaves, who along with Meyer, has been the first Cougar finisher for his respective gender in the first two meets, finished fifth overall at 20:13.3 in the 4-mile race. The senior looked over his shoulder at the finish line and quickly greeted Branch Cox and Devin Vallejo-Bannister, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Meanwhile, Tulsa was led by senior Mackenzie Callahan who ran a 14:12.2 in her first appearance of the season, taking fourth overall. She was followed by freshman Sophia McNerney, who placed fifth with a time of 14:16.6.
Other top 20 finishers on the women's side included Harper Shaw in 14th with a time of 15:07.8 and Lili Grant in 19th who ran a 15:25.8.
