IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, September 11.
Offensive Player of the Week
Knut Ahlander, Gr., M, SMU
Ahlander helped lead the Mustangs to a dominate offensive week as the graduate students scored three total goals. In the 7-2 win over UTRGV, Ahlander score two goals. During the Top 25 showdown between SMU and No. 17 Saint Louis, he would score one goal to help lift the Mustangs to the road win.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cam Weston, Sr., D, Memphis
Weston anchored the backline for Memphis, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 clean sheet win over Green Bay. Memphis allowed just two shots on goal and Weston blocked two shots of his own.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Cole Johnson, Jr., GK, SMU
Johnson picked up two wins last week and included a clean sheet victory over No. 17 Saint Louis on the road. He came away with four saves in the win over UTRGV early in the week before adding two more against Saint Louis.
Rookie of the Week
Alexander Petraeus, Fr., F, SMU
Patraeus has a stellar week for the Mustangs, helping his squad go 2-0. In the 7-2 win over UTRGV, the freshman had two assists. In the win over No. 17 Saint Louis, Petraeus scored his first career goal.
Weekly Honor Roll
Lucca Dourado, Jr., F, UCF
Dourado was essential in helping the Knights go 2-0 on the week, scoring three goals. He scored his first goal against UC Riverside before scoring two more in the 3-2 win over UC Irvine.
Mael Haise, Fr., D, UCF
Haise came through in a big way for UCF, scoring the game-winning goal against UC Irvine with a header in the 77
th minute to lift the Knights past the Anteaters 3-2.
Lasse Laursen, So., D, Charlotte
Laursen played 90 minutes in the 49ers 5-0 win over Detroit Mercy. The defender helped Charlotte get a clean sheet victory as the 49ers allowed just five shots in the match.
Colin Welsh, So, GK, Memphis
Welsh collected his second clean sheet of the season as the Tigers handed Green Bay their first loss of the season. Welsh finished with two saves in the 1-0 win.
Mitchell Cashion, Sr., D, Tulsa
Cashion played 86 minutes in the Top 25 match between Tulsa and No. 5 Kentucky. Despite playing one man down for nearly 60 minutes, Cashion anchored a backline that allowed just one goal in the 1-1 draw with the Wildcats.
