OMAHA, Neb. - Wichita State dropped a pair of closely contested sets and could not recover from the deficit, falling to Omaha 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 19-25 on Thursday night at Baxter Arena.
The opening set was largely controlled by Omaha (3-1), though the Shockers battled back from an early deficit to grab a 16-15 lead on a Brylee Kelly kill. Another Kelly kill later in the set evened the score at 21-all, but the Mavericks got three big kills from Shayla McCormick down the stretch to grab a 25-22 win. Kelly hit .417 in the set with six kills to pace the Shocker attack.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – SMU overpowered Sam Houston en route to a straight-set victory (25-14, 25-15, 25-) at the Dugan Wellness Center Friday.
In the opener of the Islanders Classic, the Mustangs never trailed in the contest and moved to 3-1 on the season, while the Bearkats fell to 2-3.
Natalie Perdue and Jamison Wheeler finished with 12 kills each, the fourth time both players notched at least 10 kills in four outings this season. Wheeler added six digs and two block assists, while Perdue chipped in four digs and assisted on one rejection
In match two, SMU earned its second sweep of the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) triumph over Indiana Friday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
Jamison Wheeler notched 11 kills – her fifth double-digit performance of the campaign. She added two service aces. Celia Cullen recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs.

HOUSTON, Texas – A pair of sweeps by the University of Houston volleyball team over Central Arkansas and Alabama christened the 11th Annual Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup on Friday in Fertitta Center.
The Cougars (4-1) opened Friday with a 3-0 sweep over Central Arkansas (3-1) before topping Alabama (3-2) in the night cap.
Leading the offense, senior Morgan Janda posted 48 assists over the two matches, playing in five total sets.
In the first match, Senior Abbie Jackson was a menace from the first set, recording 12 kills in the first frame before ending with a match-best 18 kills.
Jackson tallied her first double-double of the season in the Flo Hyman opener, chipping in 14 digs to go with her 18 kills.
The second match saw Theut led the Cougars with nine kills and recorded a .467 attacking clip. Sophomore Kellen Morin tied a career-high four blocks in the match and was a part of each Houston block in the match.
Wichita State 3, Northern Colorado 0 – Box Score
OMAHA, Neb. - Wichita State held a potent Northern Colorado attack to a .144 hitting percentage, rolling past the defending Big Sky champions 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 on Friday night at Baxter Arena.
Sophia Rohling led the Shockers with 11 kills on 27 swings. Kayce Litzau paced the match with 35 digs. Defensviley, Lilly Liekweg led Wichita State with 16 digs, while Rohling added 10 to finish with a double-double.
UCF 3, Syracuse 0 – Box Score
ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF volleyball team started off both their season and their first match in the UCF Challenge in style, defeating the Syracuse Orange in straight sets on Friday at The Venue.
Fifth-year senior McKenna Melville had a historic night. She recorded her 2,000th Kill in the second set of tonight's match. The Eagan, Minn. joins Renata Menchikova (1995-97 / 2,151) in reaching the historic mark and is likely to break the record later this season. On the night she had 19 kills, seven in the final third set, to go along with two blocks.
Abby Hansen (6) along with both Kari Zumach (5) and Emily Wilson (5) led UCF in kills behind the 19-kill performance. Amber Olson had 32 of the Knights 35 assists in the match to go along with two blocks.
South Florida 3, Georgetown 0 – Box Score
STONY BROOK, N.Y.– Playing away from home for the first time this season, the University of South Florida Bulls (2-2) claimed a sweep on Friday night over Georgetown University (0-5) by set scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-17.
Amanda DeWitt and Maria Clara Andrade finished the match with 10 kills each, hitting .429 and .389, respectively. Andrade, a freshman, has recorded double-digit kills in all four matches on the young season, and DeWitt has floored 10 kills or more in three straight matches.

NEW ORLEANS- The Tulane volleyball team (3-1) opened the home campaign with a 3-1 victory over Howard University (2-1) on Friday afternoon at the Green Wave Classic inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The individual games scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-16.
Tulane produced a strong overall offensive display, with 52 kills, five service aces and a hitting percentage of.283 in the four-game set.
Senior Amarachi Osuji led the attack for Tulane with match highs of 14 kills and 17.5 points. Osuji also had three solo blocks and a block assist. She was one of three for the Green Wave that totaled nine or more kills with Melissa Kolurbasi reaching double figures with 10 kills and Mackenzie Martin picking up nine. Setter Kate Van Houten did a bit of everything with 33 assists, nine digs, seven kills and a hitting percentage of .556.
In the second match, the Tulane University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 17-25) setback to Kansas City in their second game of the Green Wave Classic on Friday.
Senior Amarachi Osuji led the Green Wave with 11 kills. Senior Kate Van Houten paced Tulane with 24 assists and junior Sophia Ervanian tallied a team-best 20 digs.

Nacogdoches, Texas — The University of Tulsa volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars Friday at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational.
The non-conference victory boosted the Golden Hurricane's overall record to 2-2 on the season.
Kayley Cassaday finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Golden Hurricane offense. The setter tandem Brayden Hipp and Avery Kalsu combined for 29 assists.
In match two, the University of Tulsa volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit but could not close out in the fifth set, losing to the McNeese State Cowgirls 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-21, 12-15) Friday night at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational.
The loss dropped Tulsa to 2-3 overall.
The Golden Hurricane was led by double-doubles from Kayley Cassaday (24 kills and 15 digs), Aysu Dalogullari (13 kills and 18 digs), and Avery Kalsu (26 assists and 25 digs). Bailey Rowe added nine kills and Brayden Hipp produced 38 assists to help the attack.
Texas A&M 3, Memphis 0 – Box Score
FORT WORTH, Texas– Memphis volleyball returned to the court tonight against Texas A&M. The Aggies defeated the Tigers 3-0.
A&M came out hot, winning the first set 25-15. Kate Bass led the team with 4 kills on 5 swings in the frame.
In the second, a service error by the Aggies, followed by back-to-back kills by Tabytha Toelke sparked a 5-0 run that forced the Aggies to use their first timeout of the match. Memphis would continue a 9-3 rally following the timeout. Ultimately Texas A&M battle back to win the set 25-19 and go up 2-0 in the match.
The third set of the match went back-and-forth, with five lead changes and 12 tied scores. Texas A&M went on a 5-0 run to close out the set and match.
Northeastern 3, East Carolina 1 – Box Score
DURHAM, N.C. – Northeastern put three players in double figures in the kill column and hit .238 on the way to its first victory of the season, a 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 29-27, 25-21) decision over East Carolina Friday morning inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The match began the Duke Invitational which continues later Friday and into Saturday.
The Pirates (2-2) could not hold on after winning the opening frame, hitting .095 and .118 in the second and fourth sets to finish at .199. Conversely, the Huskies (1-3) fired at a .238 clip and hit above .200 in the final three stanzas. Northeastern dominated the stat sheet in both kills (67-42) and digs (72-43) while ECU ended up with the advantage in the block column (10-7).
Erica Staunton racked up a match-high 21 kills and hit .317 as Laura Seeger and Defne Arliel joined her in double figures with 14 and 13, respectively. Angeles Alderete and Brittany Wood collected 11 kills apiece for the Pirates. Defensively, Kenzie Beckham recorded a squad-high 14 digs while Shaylynn Hall and Kianie Cummings tallied five blocks each. Kayla Martin anchored the Huskies’ back row with a contest-best 27 digs.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Temple Owls volleyball team fell to No. 20 Kansas Jayhawks on Friday during their first match of the Black Knight Invitational inside Gillis Field House by the score of 0-3 (15-25, 19-25, 17-25).
The loss drops the Owls to 1-2 on the young season, while the nationally-ranked Jayhawks move to 4-0. TU's trio of Taylor Davenport, Peyton Boyd and Jelena Prolic had six kills apiece in the match.

PROVO, Utah – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team went the distance against No. 10-ranked Pitt, before falling in five sets on Friday at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
Sophomore middle blocker Abby Walker put together a stellar performance, registering a career-high 23 kills at an efficient .400 clip. She added five blocks, two digs and an ace in the loss.
Freshman setter Caroline Endres dished out a personal-best 52 assists and tied her career-high four service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Ligia Williams posted 10 kills and five blocks while redshirt senior right-side Kailea Carrier notched eight kills and five blocks.
In the second match, The University of Cincinnati volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to No. 7-ranked BYU on Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
Facing their second top-10 team in as many games, the Bearcats could not overcome a strong offensive performance by the Cougars. BYU finished with a clip of .363, totaling 63 kills on 124 attempts. UC finished with a hitting percentage of .129 with 41 kills on 124 attempts.
Sophomore Shaye Eggleston provided an all-around performance in the loss. She recorded a season-best nine kills to go along with seven digs. Sophomore Abby Walker added nine kills and three blocks while freshman Avry Tatum provided a lift off the bench with eight kills.
