SMU 6, FIU 4 – Box Score

DALLAS, Texas – The SMU men’s soccer team won in a high-scoring affair over FIU on Friday night to pick up their first American Athletic Conference win of the season in a 6-4 shootout over the Panthers.

Scoring started early and often for the Mustangs. Alexander Petraeus scored in the 4th minute for the initial goal of the match.

David Garcia of FIU tied the match in the 16th minute, but the tie was short lived as Knut Ahlander put the Mustangs back on top in the 21st minute.

Jose Ortiz scored two goals within 11 minutes (23’, 34’) to put the Mustangs up 4-1 at halfime.

FIU came out firing in the second half, cut the deficit to one as Andrew Bennett (56’) and Paulo Alves (62’) both found the back of the net to make it 4-3.

That would be as close as the Panthers got as SMU used two goals from Fredrik Skilberg and Ahlander to push the lead back to three goals.

With three minutes remaining, Fumiya Shiraishi scored a goal for the Panthers to make the score 6-4.
