ORLANDO – The UCF men's soccer team improved to 2-0 at home this season thanks to its 3-0 victory on Monday afternoon over UC Riverside.
The Knights applied pressure right from the opening whistle and registered a shot just past the five-minute mark. On the ensuing goal kick, UC Riverside turned over the ball as AJ Seals went up and won a jump ball.
Gino Vivi settled it down and dished it off to Mauricio Villalobos Vega. Villalobos in turn gave it back to Vivi in stride who cashed in with a strike to the far side of the goal.
The Black and Gold carried the 1-0 lead into the break, but only had a slight 8-7 advantage in shot attempts. UCF freshman goalkeeper and American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Juanvi Muñoz came up big for his side, making four saves including a quality chance on a quick break from the Highlanders.
It took just two minutes and 48 seconds for the Knights to score after kicking the ball off for the second half. Emmanuel Bam had a nice feed up the pitch to Villalobos, who crashed the net and dumped the ball off for Lucca Dourado who was unmarked right at the goalmouth.
Twenty minutes later, the Knights tallied their final goal of the match as Josiah Ramirez applied some pressure and wound up finding a loose ball in the box. He drove towards the net and converted for his second career goal.
Villalobos earned two assists in the contest, the third time of his career he has done that. The last time he had a pair of assists was against No. 6 Tulsa on Oct. 10 in a 3-2 win. Anderson Rosa tallied a career high five shot attempts.
Tulsa 4, Oral Roberts 0 – Box Score
TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa's 12th-ranked men's soccer team earned 4-0 win over crosstown rival Oral Roberts on Monday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 3-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 1-2-1 overall.
Wes Bottenburg put Tulsa on the board with 14:24 ticked off the clock. He drilled in a shot from three yards out. Tom Protzek took the corner kick, Mariano Fazio headed it down in the box and Bottenburg had the finish.
Alex Meinhard gave TU a two-goal in the 21st minute as he drilled a penalty kick into the lower left corner.
Austen Scheweinert added a goal for Tulsa at the 56:30 mark, and then assisted on Gustaf Rosengren's goal in the 65th minute.
SMU 7, UTRGV 2 – Box Score
DALLAS, Texas - The SMU offense generated 21 shots with 12 on goal, en route to a 7-2 win against UTRGV Monday night at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.
The Mustangs (3-1) got the scoring started early and never turned back. SMU scored a season-high seven goals, the most since February 13, 2021, when the Mustangs scored seven at USF. Jose Ortiz and Knut Ahlander each had multigoal performances.
Ahlander picked up where he left off the last match, earning his second consecutive multigoal performance. Ahlander scored in the first minute of play off a Jose Ortiz assist. In the 53rd minute, he converted on a penalty kick, earning his second goal of the night and fifth of the season.
Shortly after, freshman Fredrik Skilberg earned his first collegiate goal in the fifth minute. Skilberg cashed in on the left side of the net after Alexander Petraeus delivered an assist off an outstanding effort to keep the ball in play.
Jose Ortiz recorded his second multigoal match of the season. Ortiz struck for the first time in the 49th minute, heading one in the middle of the net off an assist from Henry Howell. In the 62nd minute, Ortiz chipped in his second goal of the night, capitalizing off a missed save opportunity from the UTRGV keeper.
Mads Westergren found the net for the first time this season in the 42nd minute to extend the Mustang lead. Westergren found the top right of the goal of a Harvey Castro assist.
Freshman Elton Hedstrom finished off the Mustang scoring, shifting his way through the defense and cashing one in the 88th minute.
UTRGV's Kgodiso Sukati converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute to get the Vaquero's on the board. Anthony Patt scored UTRGV's second goal.
Temple 1, Penn 1 – Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Temple men's soccer team (1-1-2, 0-0-0 AAC) picked up its second draw of the season Monday night at Penn. Temple scored in the first half to take an early lead before Penn tied it up in the second half.
Both teams came out firing early. Penn had their first shot of the match only 51 seconds in. The attempt was easily saved by Gawronski. Temple responded with a shot from Yann Kouemi a few minutes later.
Penn was controlling possession in the first 20 minutes, with another shot saved by Gawronski and one ringing off the post. The Owls took advantage of this aggressive play, successfully utilizing a counter-attack to score on a fast break chance. Forwards Sean Karani and Mike Eijgendaal had a fantastic back and forth resulting in a goal from Eijgendaal assisted by Karani. It was Karani's first score of 20222.
Penn and Temple stayed hot for the rest of the half. Gawronski made two more saves off Quaker shots. On the Owls side, Kouemi fired off his second shot of the game.
