FIU Claims Two American Men's Soccer Awards Following Top 25 WIns

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, September 4.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Stephen Afrifa, Sr., F, FIU
Afrifa led the Panthers to two victories this past week over No. 13 North Carolina and No. 25 St. John’s. In the 2-1 win over North Carolina, Afrifa scored the go-ahead goal and the game-winner. His first goal came in the 24th minute as Afrifa took a cross and finished past the keeper. His second goal came in the 62nd minute to put the Panthers up 2-0.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sean Suber, Sr., Charlotte
Suber anchored the 49ers backline in a pair of clean sheet victories this past week, defeating Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern. Charlotte allowed just 11 shots in two games. Suber also scored the first goal of the night against Gardner-Webb.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Kevin Harr, Fr., FIU
Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Harr started both contests in the Panthers two Top 25 wins this week, defeating No. 13 North Carolina 2-1 and No. 25 St. John’s 1-0. Harr collected nine saves on a total of 27 shots faced. He collected a clean sheet against No. 25 St. John’s after coming away with six saves.
 
Rookie of the Week
Juanvi Munoz, Fr., GK, UCF
Juanvi Munoz helped UCF come away with a win over North Florida on Monday as the freshman collected seven saves in the win over the Osprey’s. He faced a total of 14 shots in the win.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Koby Carr, R-Sr, M, Charlotte
Carr helped lead the 49ers to a pair of victories over Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern. The senior midfielder scored on goal and dished out a pair of assists in the two wins. Carr ranks second on the team in points with six through three matches.
 
Thomas Wallis, R-Jr., GK, Charlotte
Wallis finished the week with a pair of clean sheet victories over Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern. Willis made a career-high five saves against Gardner-Webb, while making one save against Georgia Southern.
 
David Garcia, Sr., D, FIU
Garcia anchored the backline for the Panthers in two Top 25 wins. Garcia played the full 180 minutes in two games. Garcia provided several key defensive blocks and clears on set pieces to prevent scoring opportunities.
 
Knut Ahlander, Gr. M, SMU
Ahlander finished with his first multi-goal performance at SMU, leading the Mustangs to a 2-0 win over Central Arkansas. Ahlander scored in the 13th minute to give SMU the lead before converting on a penalty kick for his second goal.
 
Malik Henry-Scott, Jr., F, Tulsa
Henry-Scott helped Tulsa earn a 4-1 victory over Kansas City last week, scoring two goals for the Golden Hurricane. His first goal came in the 21st minute to put Tulsa up 1-0, before scoring his second goal in the 56th minute.
