Tulane moved into second place in the American Athletic Conference men's basketball standings on Saturday, January 14 with a win over UCF.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jaylen Forbes scored 27 points as Tulane beat UCF 77-69 on Saturday.

Forbes added six rebounds and three steals for the Green Wave (12-5, 5-1 American Athletic Conference). Jalen Cook scored 21 points while shooting 7 for 19 (2 for 9 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free throw line, and added five steals. Kevin Cross recorded 16 points and was 6 of 9 shooting and 4 of 4 from the free throw line.

Tyem Freeman led the way for the Knights (13-5, 4-2) with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. CJ Kelly added 17 points for UCF. In addition, Taylor Hendricks finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

Tulane took the lead with 18:47 left in the first half and did not give it up. Forbes led his team in scoring with 18 points in the first half to help put them ahead 38-23 at the break. Tulane was outscored by UCF in the second half by a seven-point margin, but still wound up on top, while Cook led the way with a team-high 14 second-half points.

Cincinnati 54, SMU 52 - Box Score
DALLAS (AP) — Landers Nolley II knocked down a 3-pointer with three-and-a-half minutes to play and it proved to be the game-winner as Cincinnati held on for a 54-52 win over SMU on Saturday.

The Bearcats held a 54-49 lead but did not score again in the game and the Mustangs managed just a Stefan Todorovic 3 with 1:26 remaining.

Nolly finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Bearcats (13-6, 4-2 American Athletic Conference). Mika Adams-Woods added 16 points while shooting 6 for 9, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc, and he also had four steals. Viktor Lakhin shot 3 of 9 from the field to finish with six points.

Zach Nutall led the way for the Mustangs (6-12, 1-4) with 13 points and three steals. Zhruic Phelps added 11 points and five steals for SMU. Efe Odigie also had 10 points.

Adams-Woods put up 10 points in the first half for Cincinnati, who led 29-27 at the break. Cincinnati used an 8-0 second-half run come back from a one-point deficit and take the lead at 37-30 with 17:25 left in the half before finishing off the victory. Nolley scored eight second-half points.

Wichita State 73, Tulsa 69 - Box Score
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Jaykwon Walton’s 19 points helped Wichita State defeat Tulsa 73-69 on Saturday night.

Walton shot 6 for 9 (0 for 3 from 3-point range) and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for the Shockers (9-8, 2-3 American Athletic Conference). Craig Porter Jr. added 13 points while going 4 of 8 and 5 of 5 from the free throw line, and he also had eight rebounds. James Rojas recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kenny Pohto had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sam Griffin led the way for the Golden Hurricane (4-12, 0-5) with 25 points. Brandon Betson added 10 points for Tulsa. In addition, Anthony Pritchard had nine points. The loss was the Golden Hurricane’s sixth straight.

Porter scored seven points in the first half and Wichita State went into the break trailing 41-27. Wichita State trailed by 11 points in the second half but went on a 7-0 run to narrow the gap to 50-46 with 12:35 left in the half before finishing off the victory
