LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Macey Bader scored 42 seconds to kick start No. 5 Charlotte’s 5-0 win over No. 4 East Carolina in the second quarterfinal of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
With the win, the 49ers (9-6-4) advance to the semifinals and will take on No. 1 Memphis on Thursday, November 2 at 4 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.
Bader started the scoring 42 seconds into the first half, cutting through a pair of defenders and firing in a shot from just outside the box. She scored her second goal of the match eight minutes into the second half.
Braelynn Francher doubled Charlotte’s lead in the 24
th minute when she launched in a free kick from about 35 yards out that curled in and beat ECU’s Maeve English. Julia Patrum made it 3-0 when she fired in a shot from just inside the box to the upper left corner of the net.
Ayanna Parker closed out the scoring in the 74
th minute off an assist by Lily Suyao.
Emma Wakeman recorded five saves for the 49ers, while English made four saves for the Pirates (9-5-5).
