IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, April 23.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Scott Beattie, Sr., Tulsa
Scott Beattie ran the 5,000-meter run in 13:30.57 at the Payton Jordan Invitational, the fastest mark in The American and the 13
th best time in the country. He now owns the top mark in The American in the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run (27:58.92), with both being top 15 times in the NCAA this spring.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jared Harrell, Fr., East Carolina
Jared Harrell leaped 15.25 meters in the triple jump at the Virginia Challenge. His distance moved him up to ninth place in the East Carolina program record books and into first place in The American this season. The mark is also the 68
th best mark in the country.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Sydni Townsend, Sr., Houston
Sydni Townsend blazed through the 400-meter hurdles at the Duckett Twilight meet, running the third fastest time in Cougar program history at 57.53. The time is also the 29
th best time in the nation and the second best in The American this season.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Amber Simpson, Gr., Memphis
Amber Simpson maintained the top spot in The American in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 67.11 meters at the Crimson Tide Invitational. The mark is also the 8
th best in the NCAA this season.
