Conference Records Fall In Weekly Track & Field Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, April 30.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Christian Baker, Jr., Tulsa
Baker set a new American Athletic Conference record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Drake Relays on April 26, clocking a time of 8:38.66, beating the previous mark held by Emmanuel Rotich (Tulane, 2019) by over a second (8:39.68). His time is the 13th fastest in the country and leads The American by seven seconds.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Fred Moudani, Sr., Cincinnati
Moudani broke his own conference shot put record that he set on April 14 at the UF Tom Jones Memorial by increasing his throw to 20.03 meters at the Penn Relays on April 27. His throw put him in the Top 10 in the country (No. 9) and currently leads The American by nearly two meters.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rayniah Jones, Jr., UCF
Jones ran past competition at the UNF East Coast Relays on April 28, breaking her own record in the 100-meter hurdles by a tenth of a second, clocking a time of 12.63. Her time is the 4th best in the country and the top in The American. She also ran an 11.17 second 100-meter dash, the second-fastest in The American and the 21st best time in the country.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Amber Simpson, Gr., Memphis
Simpson repeats at the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, throwing a personal record in hammer throw of 68.13 meters to break The American conference record, previously held by DeeNia McMiller of Memphis (2019; 67.89m). Simpson now has the 6th best throw in the country and maintains her lead in The American.
