Opening day for women's soccer took place on Thursday, August 17, as The American opened a new era with 12 teams in action. Highlighting the action was South Florida's 1-0 away win over LSU on a goal by Georgia Brown. Elsewhere, the conference preseason favorite Memphis showed its offensive prowless with a 6-0 win over Southern, UTSA defeated Central Arkansas 5-1 and North Texas opened its campaign with a 3-0 win at UNLV.
