IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the matches of the week ending Sunday, August 27.
Offensive Player of the Week
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, Jr., M, Memphis
Rodrigues dos Santos opened the 2023 season with a pair of masterful performances, finishing with three total goals and one assist in a pair of wins for the Tigers. The junior had one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win over Green Bay before earning two goals in a 3-1 win over NIU.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cesar Sancho, 5th, D, Memphis
Sancho anchored a backline that helped the Tigers finish 2-0 on the week, including a season-opening shutout over Green Bay. In the 3-1 win over NIU, the Tigers allowed just four shots on goal.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Welsh, So., GK, Memphis
Welsh picked up a pair of victories in the goal for the Tigers, finishing with 8 total saves and not allowing a goal in his 169 minutes in the net.
Rookie of the Week
Oliver Moller-Jensen, Fr., F, Florida Atlantic
Moller-Jensen scored his first career goal and the first goal of the match in the 6-4 win over (RV) Lipscomb. He also added an assist in the win.
Weekly Honor Roll
Tom Abrahamsson, Gr., D, Florida Atlantic
Abrahamsson finished with two goals and two assists across two matches for the Owls. In the win over (RV) Lipscomb, he finished with two goals and an assist.
Victor Claudel, Gr., F, Florida Atlantic
Claudel finished with one goal and one assist in the Owls 6-4 win over (RV) Lipscomb and followed up with the game-tying goal at Belmont in the 75
th minute.
Alexander Petraeus, So., F, SMU
Patraeus finished with two assists in 54 minutes as the Mustangs defeated UTRGV in the season opener 2-1.
Flannan Riley, Sr., GK, Temple
Riley picked up a clean sheet and three saves as the Owls finished in a 0-0 tie against Monmouth.
Malik Henry-Scott, Sr., F, Tulsa
Henry-Scott scored two goals in the 4-1 win over UTRGV to help the 16
th-ranked Golden Hurricane pick up their first win of the season.
