UAB, East Carolina, SMU Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the weekly women’s soccer honors for the fifth week of the season.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Nyah Rose, Fr., F, SMU
Rose recorded a brace in the Mustangs’ 6-3 win over Rice on Thursday night to open up American Athletic Conference league play. She scored twice nine minutes apart in the 14th and 23rd minutes.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jazmin Ferguson, So., D, East Carolina
Ferguson led the Pirate backline to a pair of shutouts. She scored the game-winning goal and the ECU defense did not allow a shot on goal against Florida Atlantic on Thursday, and only allowed three shots on goal against UNCG on Sunday.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Anika Toth, Sr., UAB
Toth recorded three saves and a clean sheet as the Blazers battled to a scoreless draw with Charlotte in the opening games for both teams in The American.
 
Rookie of the Week
Emma Alvord, F, SMU
Alvord scored a goal and added two assists in SMU’s 6-3 win over Rice on Thursday.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Kristy Campbell, Gr., D, Charlotte
Scored the game-winning goal against Longwood on Sunday and aided the 49er defense in only allowing three shots on goal over two games.
 
Lucy Fazackerley, Fr., D, East Carolina
Fazackerley assisted on both of the Pirates’ game-winning goals in 1-0 victories over Florida Atlantic and UNCG.
 
Saorla Miller, F, 5th, Memphis
Miller scored the game-winning goal against North Texas on Thursday night before adding an insurance goal in a 4-0 win over UT Martin on Sunday.
 
Sarah Hagg, Jr., D, Memphis
Hagg and Tiger defense recorded two shutouts, allowing three goals against North Texas and none against UT Martin. Hagg also assisted on the game-winning goal against North Texas.
 
Vivianne Bessette, Jr., D, South Florida
Bessette scored the game-winning goal against Temple on Thursday night in the conference opener for both teams.
