IRVING, Texas – FIU swept all three events on the first day of the 2024 American Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas.
 
After the first day, FIU leads with 118 points, followed by SMU (101), North Texas (68), Tulane (65), Florida Atlantic (62), East Carolina (61) and Rice (34).
 
The FIU relay team of Dian Santamaria, Christie Chue, Oumy Diop and Jessica Shpilko started off the night winning the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:38.15. SMU came in second in 1:39.03, while Florida Atlantic was third in 1:39.81.  It is the second straight year the Panthers have won the event.
 
In 1-meter diving, Paige Burrell of FIU broke the Championship Record in the prelims with a score of 316.90 before winning the event in the evening with a score of 283.60. SMU’s Jaclynn Fowler finished second with 280.50 points, while Florida Atlantic’s Alicia Mora was third with 279.45 points.
 
In the final event of the evening, the 800 freestyle relay, the FIU squad of Chue, Harliai Curthoys-Davies, Nicole Frank and Ana Luiza Daisson won in a time of 7:09.88. Rice finished second in 7:15.79, and SMU placed third in 7:17.06.
 
The meet continues Friday, February 23, with swimming prelims at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT, diving prelims at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT and finals at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
