FIU Leads After Second Day of 2024 American Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

IRVING, Texas – FIU swept all three events on the first day of the 2024 American Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas.
 
After the second day, FIU leads with 290.5 points, followed by SMU (250), Rice (185), East Carolina (179), North Texas (143.5), Florida Atlantic (128) and Tulane (117).
 
Rice opened the night with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 500-yard freestyle, with Amelia Kane winning in a time of 4:43.70, ahead of Ella Dyson in 4:44.00 and Shannon Campbell in 4:45.84.
 
Christie Chue of FIU repeated as the 200-yard individual medley champion, winning in a time of 1:57.21. Rice’s Arielle Hayon placed second in 1:58.55, just ahead of FIU’s Nicole Frank in 1:58.85.
 
Rice’s Imogen Meers captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.23, ahead of SMU’s Johanna Gudmundsdottir, who was second in 22.47. FIU’s Diana Santamaria placed third in 22.68.
 
In the final individual event of the evening, Frida Zuniga Guzman of East Carolina broke the Championship record in 3-meter diving with 352.80 total points. Sydney Guidara of North Texas finished second with 308.75 points, followed by SMU’s Jaclynn Fowler with 305.25 points.
 
The East Carolina team of Carlie Clements, Mikayla Durkin, Laura Kellberg and Heidi Bruining won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:30.81. FIU placed second in 1:31.42, while Florida Atlantic was third in 1:32.30.
 
The meet continues Saturday, February 24, with swimming prelims at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT, diving prelims at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT and finals at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
