IRVING, Texas – For a second consecutive year, the American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship is headed to Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The American Men’s Golf Championship is scheduled for April 19-21 with teams playing three 18-hole rounds., with live coverage of the third and final round to air on ESPN+.
 
Split tee times for the opening round on April 19 is set to begin with No. 4 seed North Texas, No. 5 seed Memphis and No. 6 seed UTSA teeing off of the first hole between 8-8:52 a.m. (ET), while No. 10 Rice, No. 11 Wichita State and No. 12 Temple will begin on tee 10. No. 1 seed SMU, No. 2 seed South Florida and No. 3 seed Charlotte will begin on tee one between 9:05-9:57 a.m. (ET), while No. 7 East Carolina, No. 8 Florida Atlantic and No. 9 UAB will begin their tourn on hole 10. Teams will be re-paired based on cumulative score for both rounds two and three with split tee times for both ensuing rounds.
 
AMERICAN MEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR AN DEBUT AT PELICAN GOLF CLUB
The American Men’s Golf Championship returns to the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The course will play at a par-70 and measure approximately 6,881 yards for the weekend.
 
Originally opened in 1925 and designed by renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, the course was renovated in 2017, designed with inspiration from Donald Ross’ original layout. Pelican Golf Club was host to “The Match” in 2022 and has hosted LGPA Tour events over the past three years.
 
 
SOUTH FLORIDA, SMU LOOK TO RETURN TO WINNERS CIRCLE
Having won a combined seven of the previous nine American Men’s Golf Championships, South Florida and SMU will look to return to the top mark. SMU, the top seed in the tournament, is looking for its third conference tournament title, having last won in 2022 at Southern Hills Plantation Club. The Mustangs finished in third place a season ago at The Pelican. SMU returns 2023 All-Conference member William Sides.
 
South Florida is look for its sixth championship after having won five in the six years (2015-19, 2021). South Florida had its lowest finish in the tournament a season ago, finishing in sixth place. However, the Bulls return two 2023 All-Conference selections in Shubham Jaglan and Jake Peacock.

Six programs will be competing in The American Women’s Golf Championships for the first time, as North Texas, UTSA, Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, Rice and UAB are in their first season in the league.  Charlotte enters The American having won the 2023 Conference USA team championship and will look to continue its success in the first year in The American as they enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
WHERE TEAMS FROM THE AMERICAN STAND IN THE LATEST CLIPPD RANKINGS
SMU enters the tournament as the highest ranked team in The American as of the April 17 Clippd rankings.  The Mustangs enter ranked 42. The South Florida Bulls trail the Mustangs by six spots, ranking 46 in the nation.  Third seed Charlotte is ranked 73 in the latest Clippd rankings, joining the Mustangs and Bulls in the Top 100.
