DALLAS – Charlotte, Memphis, Rice and SMU all advanced to the semifinals with wins in the quarterfinals at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Friday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
No. 1 SMU started off the day with a 4-1 win over No. 9 seed UTSA before fourth-seeded Rice defeated No. 5 seed South Florida, 4-0. Charlotte, the No. 2 seed, outlasted No. 7 seed Wichita State, 4-3, before third-seeded Memphis defeated No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic, 4-1.

SMU 4, UTSA 1
Records: SMU (11-11), UTSA (15-7)
Hadley Doyle won at both No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles as SMU defeated UTSA, 4-1, in the day’s first match.
Doyle and teammate Drew Morris clinched the doubles point for SMU with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker against UTSA’s Fatima Gutierrez and Ekua Youri at No. 2 doubles.
Doyle then was first to finish in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cassie McLay at No. 3. Youri scored the Roadrunners’ lone point with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Caroline McGinley at No. 5 singles.
Both Lana Mavor and Millie Skelton needed tiebreakers to win their first sets, but then captured their second sets to clinch the win for the Mustangs. Mavor defeated Vittoria Baccino, 7-6 (1), 6-2 at No. 4, while Skelton beat topped Magda Tuells, 7-6 (4), 6-1 at No. 6.
SMU will face Rice on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
Rice, 4, South Florida 0

Rice took down South Florida, 4-0, in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
Anushka Ashar and Divna Ratkovic clinched the doubles point for the Owls with a 6-4 win over South Florida’s Melisa Senli and Kelly Vargas.
The Owls then had three straight-set wins in singles to clinch the match. Ratkovic defeated Senli, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 before Federica Trevisan finished a 6-0, 6-2 win over Grace Schumacher at No. 1. Saara Orav clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vargas at No. 5 singles.
Rice will face SMU on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
Charlotte 4, Wichita State 3
Records: Charlotte (19-7), Wichita State (13-10)
Charlotte’s Shona Nakano outlasted Wichita State’s Giorgia Roselli, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4 in a 3-hour marathon that clinched the match for the 49ers, 4-3. The third set was played entirely after the match was tied, 3-3.
Wichita State clinched the doubles point when Theodora Chantava and Roselli defeated Charlotte’s Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins, 6-4, at No. 3.
Petruzelova was the first to finish singles, defeating Natsumi Kurahashi, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2. Wichita State took a 2-1 lead when Kristi Kudryavtseva defeated Sara Suchankova, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4.
Charlotte’s Lucia Quiterio took down Xin Tong Wang, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-0 at No. 1 singles before Wichita State’s Jessica Ango topped Wilkins, 7-5, 7-6 (3), at No. 6 to tie the match at 3.
Charlotte will face Memphis on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT.
Memphis 4, Florida Atlantic 1
Records: Memphis (16-7), Florida Atlantic (13-9)
Micah Pierce earned the clinching point with a straight-set victory as Memphis took down Florida Atlantic, 4-1.
Emily Meyer and Leonie Moeller took down Florida Atlantic’s Panna Bartha and Lexi Silna, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the first point for Memphis.
Monique Woog defeated Carla Galmiche, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 for the first singles point for Memphis. Meyer claimed the second with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Amber McGinnis at No. 4.
Pierce earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Millie-Mae Matthews at No. 6 singles after Florida Atlantic’s Victoria Gomez O’Hayon won at No. 2 over Moeller, 6-2, 6-1.
Memphis will face Charlotte on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT.
