North Texas completed an 18-point comeback to defeat UAB on the opening day of American Athletic Conference men's basketball play on the final day of 2024, December 31.

North Texas' Atin Wright hit a buzzer beater 3-point field goal to lift the Mean Green to a 78-75 win over the Blazers. Kaleb Banks led five Green Wave in double figures with 21 points as Tulane went on the road and defeated Charlotte, 83-68, while South Florida used a balanced attack to defeat East Carolina, 75-69, at home.
