TULSA, Oklahoma – Action on the first day of the 2025 American Individual Tennis Championships took place on Thursday, October 23 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
On the men’s side, Marcos Castro Fabra of Memphis and Alejandro Jacome both won twice to advance to the quarterfinals. Castro Fabra defeated Marek Pazdera of Florida Atlantic (7-5, 6-2) and No. 4 seed Oskar Grzegorzewski of UTSA (6-3, 6-3), while Jacome took down Simon Myslivec of Florida Atlantic (6-1, 6-2) and the No. 2 seed Daniel Phillips of Tulane (6-2, 6-4).
 
On the women’s side, a pair of South Florida Bulls won two matches to move on to the quarterfinals. Melisa Senli defeated Nithesa Selvaraj of Rice (6-4, 6-1) and Marianthi Christoforidou of Temple (6-3, 6-2), while Francesca Miglio beat Lou Chalard of North Texas (6-3, 7-5) and Temple’s Irmak Ozturk (7-5, 6-3).
 
A year after the top seeds fell on the first day in both single’s tournaments, both Petro Kuzmenok of Rice and Xin Tong Wang of Wichita State picked up victories on the first day this year. Kuzmenok took down Ilias Worthington of Wichita State, 6-4, 6-3, while Wang came from behind to defeat Tulane’s Natalia Fantini, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 6-4.
 
The quarterfinals in singles and doubles will be played Friday, Oct. 25, followed by Saturday’s semifinals and Sunday’s championship finals. Consolation rounds in men’s and women’s singles will also begin Friday.
