IRVING, Texas – Student-athletes from across the American Athletic Conference competed at regional sites on Friday attempting to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri on November 22. A total of 19 American athletes claimed all-region honors as a top-25 finisher at their respective regional championship meet, while the Tulane men won the South Central Regional team title by two points over Arkansas.
The Green Wave become the second American team to win a regional championship, joining Tulsa’s 2022 squad. All five scorers for Tulane finished in the top 16, including have two of the top three finishers. Bernard Cheruiyot came in second place with a time of 28:51.3, while Silas Kiptanui finished in third place with a time of 29:11.2. Gilbert Rono and Rogerio Amaral came in 11
th and 12
th, respectively, with times of 30:01.4 and 30:04.3. Illia Kunin rounded out the scorers in 16
th place with a time of 30:20.2. With the regional win, Tulane is an automatic qualifier as a team for the NCAA Championships.
