IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the weekly women’s swimming and diving honors.
Swimming Athlete of the Week
Ava Portello, Sophomore, Rice
Portello picked up three top-2 individual finishes in a pair of meets. Against Tulane on November 7, the sophomore won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:53.22, the top time in the American this season. The next day, against Tulane, LSU and Houston, Portello finished second in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.40) and 500 free (4:48.20). The 500 free time is also the best in the conference this season.
Freshman Swimming Athlete of the Week
Eliza Lennox, Tulane
Lennox won two individual events against Rice on November 7, including the 50-yard freestyle in 23.28 and the 100 freestyle in 50.77. The freshman then placed third in the 50 freestyle in 22.99 on November 8 against Rice, LSU and Houston, the top time in the American this season. She also finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.97, sixth in the conference this season.
Diving Athlete of the Week
Frida Zuniga, Senior, East Carolina
Zuniga earned two third-place finishes at the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational. She earned 260.45 points in the platform event, an NCAA Zone-qualifying score. The senior also scored 277.85 total points in the 1-meter springboard event.
Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week
Libby Brewer, Tulane
Brewer won the 1-meter event against Rice on November 7 with an NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 278.70 points. She also finished second on 3-meter with 267.98 total points.
