Henderson’s Late Header Earns Memphis 1-0 Win against East Carolina at American Women’s Soccer Championship

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida – American Conference Offensive Player of the Year Ashley Henderson’s 86th-minute header propelled No. 1 seed Memphis to a 1-0 win over eighth-seeded East Carolina in the final quarterfinal of the 2025 American Women’s Soccer Championship, Monday, November 3 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
 
With the win, the Tigers (16-0-2), the lone undefeated team in NCAA Division I, will play No. 5 seed UTSA in the semifinals on Thursday, November 6 at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+. East Carolina falls to 6-8-4 on the season.
 
In the first half, the closest either team came to scoring was in the 35th minute when a header by Tiger Ashley Henderson was cleared off the line by East Carolina’s Juliana Viera.
 
With overtime looming, the Tigers earned a corner in the 86th minute. American Midfielder of the Year Ai Kitagawa sent the corner in and Henderson rose highest and headed the ball into the bottom left corner to push the Tigers to the semifinals.
 
Olivia Dietrich recorded eight saves for the Pirates, while American Goalkeeper of the Year Abby Kudla made three saves in a clean sheet for Memphis.
