IRVING, Texas – Rice leads after the second night of the 2025 American Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship Thursday evening, February 20, at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas.
The Owls lead with 523 points, 21 points ahead of second-place Tulane with 502 points. East Carolina is third with 451 points, followed by FIU (450), North Texas (431) and Florida Atlantic (292).
In the first event of the evening, Rice’s Ava Portello captured the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:44.06. Tulane’s Lise Coetzee touched second in 4:45.04, while defending champion Amelia Kane of Rice was third in 4:45.41.
Nicole Frank of FIU won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:57.42, the third year in a row a Panther has won the event (Christie Chue in 2023 and 2024). Rice placed second and third with Mimi Filkin (1:59.25) and Reese Cole (1:59.53), respectively.
Tulane went 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle with Catherine Russo winning in a time of 22.20, just ahead of teammate Maya Wilson in 22.41. North Texas’ Shaena McCloud was third in 22.57. Russo’s win was the first for the Green Wave in the 50 free in The American and also just .01 off of the Championship record of 22.19, set by Cincinnati’s Jacqueline Keire in 2017.
Kamryn Wong won the 1-meter diving event with 310.90 total points, while her Mean Green teammate Sydney Guidara was second with 290.30 points. East Carolina’s Frida Zuniga Guzman was third with 285.60 points.
In The final event of the evening, Tulane won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:30.07 with Russo, Olcaytu Hatipoglu, Rafaela Sumida and Wilson. FIU touched second in 1:30.73, while East Carolina was third in a time of 1:31.37.
Action continues Thursday, February 20 with prelims starting at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. CT and finals starting at 6:10 p.m. ET/5:10 p.m. CT. All sessions will air live on ESPN+.
