Virginia Beach, Va. – South Florida senior Kobe Babin earned the National Runner-Up in pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. on March 14.
Babin becomes the ninth American athlete to earn National Runner-Up honors in indoor track & field. He cleared a personal-best of 5.66 meters. He becomes the first First Team All-American in pole vault for the Bulls.
Babin’s teammate, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with the 4
th fastest time at 6.55 seconds.
On the women’s side, UTSA freshman Mia Lien earned second team All-America honors with a 14
th place finish in the pentathlon, scoring 4,031 points across five events.
Fellow UTSA field athlete Ida Breigan joined Lien in second team All-America honors, leaping a distance of 6.35 meters for a 10
th place finish in long jump.
East Carolina freshman Kelly Ufodiama ran in the women’s 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. She qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash, running the 8
th fastest time at 22.96 seconds. She earned second team All-America honors in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 11
th place with a time of 7.27 seconds.
Saminu and Ufodiama will both compete in the finals on Saturday, March 15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center during the final day of the competition at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
