Temple's Griffiths, Tulsa's Lawal Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the weekly men’s basketball honors for the ninth week of the regular season.
 
Player of the Week
Gavin Griffiths, Jr., G, Temple
Griffiths helped lead the Owls to a 2-0 start in conference play by averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks. Against UTSA, the junior guard became the first player in at least 30 seasons to record seven blocks and make six 3-point field goals.
 
Freshman of the Week
Jaylen Lawal, G, Tulsa
Lawal averaged 15.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in two contests for the Golden Hurricane. The freshman guard dropped 25 points, four rebounds and three assists in a big win over Rice on New Year’s Eve.
 
Honorable Mention
Dezayne Mingo, Sr., G, Charlotte
Dropped 26 points and 10 assists in the 49ers come-from-behind win over Wichita State. Averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the week.
 
Dug McDaniel, Sr., G, Memphis
Averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals as the Tigers defeated North Texas and Rice.
 
Je’Shawn Stevenson, So., G, North Texas
Averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games, including 21 points against Tulsa to snap a 10-game win streak for the Golden Hurricane.
 
Rowan Brumbaugh, R-Jr., G, Tulane
Aided the Green Wave to a 2-0 start in American play by averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in wins over East Carolina and Florida Atlantic.
 
Kenyon Giles, Sr., G, Wichita State
Averaged 26.5 points and 2.0 assists as the Shockers went 1-1 to start conference play.
