IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 29.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Elkana Kipruto, So., Wichita State
Kipruto won the Raleigh Relays 5,000 meter run, running the fastest time in the nation at 13:35.77 to break the Wichita State program record.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Ty Hampton, Gr., Rice
Hampton won the Victor Lopez Classic in the javelin with a throw of 74.19 meters. It is the 7
th best mark in the nation this season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Blezzin Kimutai, So., Tulane
Kimutai ran a top ten national time in the 5,000 meter run at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 15:54.81. It is the 9
th best time in the nation and the second-best time in program history.
Women’s Field Athletes of the Week
Mckyla Van der Westhuizen, Sr., Rice
Van der Westhuizen took home the gold medal at the Victor Lopez classic in javelin, throwing an NCAA-best 59.06 meters.
