American Conference Announces Weekly Outdoor Track & Field Honors

IRVING, Texas  The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, April 19.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Silas Kiptanui, So., Tulane
Kiptanui placed third in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16-18 in Azusa, California. Kiptanui’s conference-leading time was ranked fifth in NCAA Division I as of April 21.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jemuel Miller, Sr., UTSA
Miller extended the top men’s triple jump mark in the conference to 16.25m (53-3.75) in a fourth place showing at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15-18 in Walnut, California. Miller’s jump checked in 11th in the nation as of April 21.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Julia Johannesdottir, So., Rice
Johannesdottir lowered her conference leading time in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in a winning effort at the Beach Invitational on April 17-18 in Long Beach, California. Johannesdottir’s wind legal time of 13.02 was the 13th ranked time in the country as of April 21.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Ida Breigan, Jr., UTSA
Breigan, the conference leader in the women’s long jump this season, won the event with a top jump of 6.42m (21-0.75) at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15-18 in Walnut, California. Breigan’s mark would have ranked second in the conference and 15th in the nation as of April 21 (top marks this season are both ranked first and third, nationally, respectively).
