BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram announced on Monday the hiring of Megan Curry as the seventh head softball coach in program history.
 
Curry comes to UAB after two successful seasons as head coach at Samford, where she guided the Bulldogs to 61 victories, a Southern Conference Championship game appearance, a second-place conference finish in 2026 and a third-place finish in 2025. 
 
A Fairhope native with deep roots in the Birmingham softball community, Curry has played, coached and built her career in the Magic City. She and her husband, Parker, UAB's assistant baseball coach, have two daughters, Lauren and Peyton.

She has a proven track record of developing student-athletes, building championship-caliber cultures and elevating programs, and we're excited for her to bring that leadership to UAB. Her ties to Birmingham and our university make this a tremendous fit for our softball program, and we look forward to what the future holds under her leadership."
 
During the 2026 season, Curry led Samford to a 28-31 record while facing one of the nation's toughest schedules, including nine nationally ranked opponents. The Bulldogs' season was highlighted by a 3-2 victory over then-No. 2 Alabama, and Curry coached Southern Conference Preseason and Regular Season Player of the Year Olivia Shaw while leading Samford to the Southern Conference Championship game.
 
In her first season with the Bulldogs in 2025, Curry guided Samford to a 33-23 overall record, winning five of seven conference series and finishing third in the Southern Conference.
 
Prior to returning to her alma mater, Curry spent one season as head coach at Birmingham-Southern, where she was named the 2024 Southern Athletic Association Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to a 24-17 overall record, a 13-5 conference mark and a runner-up finish in the conference standings.
 
Curry earned her first collegiate head coaching opportunity at Asbury University, where she led the Eagles from 2020-22. In 2021, she guided Asbury to its first 20-win season in 11 years while helping establish a strong foundation for the program.
 
Before becoming a head coach, Curry served as an assistant coach at Samford from 2017-18 before spending one season as an assistant coach at Mercer in 2020.

One of the most accomplished players in Samford softball history, Curry starred for the Bulldogs from 2013-16. She was named the 2016 Southern Conference Player of the Year after leading Samford to its first Southern Conference regular season championship, conference tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
 
Curry finished her playing career as Samford's all-time leader in doubles (48) and still owns the program's single-season records for batting average (.437 in 2015) and doubles (24 in 2016). Her .363 career batting average ranked as the school record at the conclusion of her career and currently ranks second in program history.
 
Curry earned her bachelor's degree in sports administration from Samford in 2016 before later completing her MBA.
 
While appropriate members of the UA System Board of Trustees have been notified of the proposed terms and conditions of this proposed agreement, the financial terms remain subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.
