Koskei and Rotich take home weekly cross country honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly cross country honors for the week ending on September 22.
 
Male Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Rotich * Sr. * Tulane
Rotich, the 2017 American Athletic Conference men’s cross country champion, made his presence felt in his first race of the season, winning the Texas A&M Invitational. He placed first of 118 runners in the 8K race with a time of 23:43.3. Rotich, the defending South Central Regional champion, won the race on Watts Cross Country Course, which will be used for this year’s NCAA regional. He finished ahead of runners from Texas A&M and Houston, which rank No. 3 and 12, respectively, in the South Central Region.
 
Female Athlete of the Week
Winny Koskei * So. * Wichita State
Winny Koskei, The American outdoor track and field 10,000-and 5,000-meter champion, finished third of 423 athletes at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival with a 5K personal-record time of 16:36.5. Koskei paced her team to a second-place finish of 51 programs, competing against runners from No. 9 Arkansas.
