PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly cross country honors for the first week of the 2019 season.
 
Male Athlete of the Week
Payton Gleason · So. · Memphis
Gleason paced the Tigers in their season-opening race on Saturday night at the Twilight Classic, and was Memphis’ top finisher, crossing the line in sixth place overall with a time of 20:01.95. Saturday was the first race of career in which he crossed the final line first for the Tigers, and he shaved 58 seconds off his time in the 2018 Twilight Classic (20:59.95)
 
 
Female Athlete of the Week
Jamie Tomassetti · Fr. · UCF
Jamie Tomassetti finished fourth overall in 18:38.16 at the FAU Cross Country Invitational in her collegiate debut on Friday night. As a team, the Knights finished second behind host FIU as six of the seven Knights made either their collegiate or cross country debuts. Four Knights posted Top 25 finishes and all seven finished in the top 50 of the 5K race.
