IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly cross country honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, October 17.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Payton Gleason * Jr. * Memphis
Gleason cruised in with the individual win in the Men’s 8K Gold race at the UAB Blazer Classic in Hoover, Alabama, on Oct. 16. Gleason powered the Tigers to a third-place team showing at the meet with a gold medal time of 24:23.5 on the course at Veterans Park at Hoover, logging a 4:54.4 average mile split.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Yazmine Wright * Sr. * Wichita State
Wright won her third athlete of the week citation of the season after picking up a third individual race win in a competitive field at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 15 in Peoria, Illinois. Wright took the individual title in the Women’s Red Race at the Newman Golf Course with a 6K time of 20:35.6. Wright clocked a mile split of 5:31.4 in the victory.
