Cincinnati’s Sandusky, Wichita State’s Wright Each Win Second American Weekly Cross Country Awards Of The Season

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly cross country honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, October 3.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Alec Sandusky * Gr. * Cincinnati
Sandusky ran a brilliant race in the Men’s Gold 5-Mile race at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 1 with his second race win in as many starts this season. Sandusky bested 151 other runners to place first with a time of 24:17.2, taking the win by over nine full seconds. Sandusky fashioned a 4:51.5 average mile split in the victory.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Yazmine Wright * Sr. * Wichita State
Wright earned her second race win of the season with a strong showing in the Women’s 6K Invitational at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri. Wright logged a time of 20:53.9 to finish at the top of the 153 runners who completed the course, taking the victory in just under 10 seconds. Wright clocked a 5:36.3 average mile split during the race.
