Tulsa Men Finish Sixth At 2021 DI NCAA Cross Country Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Tulsa men’s cross country program added another top-10 national team finish to its recent run of success, and three unattached student-athletes also represented the American Athletic Conference at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park.

Tulsa, the eight-time American champion in men’s cross country, finished among the national top 10 teams for the third straight season, matching its placement from this past spring at the 2020 NCAA Championships with a sixth place showing and 237 points in the men’s championship 10K. Cormac Dalton picked up All-America honors for the Golden Hurricane after leading the team across the finish line in 34th place with a time of 29:28.5. Peter Lynch was next in for Tulsa in 42nd place (29:32.6), followed by Michael Power in 51st place (29:39.7). Reigning American conference champion Scott Beattie placed 58th with a time of 29:45.2 and Isaac Akers rounded out the scorers for Tulsa in 86th place at 30:05.2.

Competing unattached in the men’s 10K for the second straight season, Cincinnati’s Alec Sandusky finished in 136th place with a time of 30:29.6.

A pair of competitors representing American women’s programs also raced unattached in the women’s championship 6K. Ellie Leather became the first women’s runner from Cincinnati to race in the NCAA Cross Country Championships, placing 109th overall with a time of 20:33.7. Michelle Joyce made her debut in the championship 6K representing Temple and finished 141st (20:44.9).
