Tulsa Men Place Sixth At 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Tulsa men’s cross country team enjoyed a top-10 finish for the second straight season by placing sixth in the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Championship at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course. The Golden Hurricane secured a sixth-place result with 237 points, and a total of four men’s student-athletes representing the American Athletic Conference earned All-America honors to establish a conference single-season record.
 
Reigning American men’s cross country champion Patrick Dever earned All-America honors for the second straight season with a Tulsa program record result of fifth place in the men’s 10K with a time of 30:00.0. Peter Lynch picked up an All-America scroll for the second consecutive championship with a 12th-place time of 30:17.7. Isaac Akers rounded out the Tulsa All-America honorees with a time of 30:25.4 for 19th place. Scott Beattie (31:25.7, 89th place) and Cameron Field (32:13.9, 151st place) also scored points for the Golden Hurricane.

Cincinnati’s Aaron Bienenfeld claimed All-America status in cross country for the first time in his career, logging a 16th-place showing with a time of 30:22.0 competing as an individual. Bearcat teammate Alec Sandusky, also running unattached, took 69th place with a time of 31:11.6.
 
In the women’s 6K, Tulsa made its third team appearance as a member of The American and placed 28th overall with 650 points. Caitlin Klopfer was the top Golden Hurricane finisher for the second straight year, crossing the finish line 69th with a championship time of 21:16.4. Caroline Miller (21:54.6, 158th), Katherina Pesendorfer (22:11.4, 180th), Alice Newcombe (22:20.2, 192nd) and Jenny O’Bryan (22:23.6, 197th) also contributed points to the Tulsa team score.
 
Three-time American women’s cross country champion Winny Koskei from Wichita State made her third straight individual start at the NCAA Championship. Koskei finished in 125th place with a time of 21:42.6.
