IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly cross country honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, September 19.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Jed Helker * R-So. * Wichita State
Helker cruised to victory in the men’s collegiate 8K at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational on Sept. 18 in Lincoln, Nebraska, guiding the Shockers to the team championship at the meet. Helker established a PR with a time of 24:18.0 to lead Wichita State to a 50-point win in the team standings over runner-up Air Force.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Darby Gauntt * Jr. * Houston
Gauntt was the individual runner-up to lead Houston to a third-place team showing at the 45th annual Rice Invitational at the Rice Intramural Fields on Sept. 18 in Houston. Gauntt completed the women’s 4K in 13:55.0 to finish second in the 83-runner field, the first of six Cougars to place in the top 25 of the final meet standings.
