2014 American Softball Awards Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference on Wednesday announced its annual Softball Awards, which were voted on by the league’s eight head coaches.

UCF’s Farrah Sullivan was named the American Player of the Year. USF’s Sara Nevins garnered American Pitcher of the Year honors, while teammate Juli Weber was named the American Rookie of the Year. UCF was tabbed as the American Coaching Staff of the Year.

Sullivan led the conference in three categories in league play, including batting average (.500), on-base percentage (.554) and slugging percentage (.761). She was named the American Player of the Week on April 28 and is a two-time American Honor Roll recipient (2/10, 3/17). The junior has nine multi-hit and five multi-RBI games.

Nevins received American Pitcher of the Week honors seven times this season. She leads the conference in wins (11), innings pitched (81.1), strikeouts (115) and shutouts (4) in league play and has thrown three no-hitters this season, including two in conference play. The senior is a top-25 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year and a top-10 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.

Weber leads the Bulls in batting average (.414) and hits (24) in league games. She ranks second on the team with nine RBIs in conference games and is tied for second in The American in hits. The Pennsylvania native also ranks third in The American in batting average in league play.

UCF won the inaugural American regular-season title with one of the youngest teams in the nation. It was the program's first-ever regular season championship and the Knights are currently receiving votes in the NFCA and USA Softball polls. UCF ranks fourth in the nation in stolen bases (2.26 per game) and eighth nationally in earned run average (1.61).
