Anagu, Muldrow Earn Weekly Volleyball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  UConn’s Immanuella Anagu and Cincinnati’s Maya Muldrow earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for Sept. 29, with Anagu earning Offensive Player of the Week accolades and Muldrow being named Defensive Player of the Week.

Anagu becomes the first player in The American to earn both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. The junior from Culver City, California was Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, following it up with Offensive Player of the Week honors this week. Anagu hit .455 on the weekend while averaging 4.71 kills/set as UConn opened conference play 2-0 for the first time in 10 years. She tallied a career-high 19 kills in a sweep of Temple Wednesday, tied for the second-most in a three-set match in The American’s history.

Muldrow is the first freshman to earn Player of the Week honors under the new Offensive/Defensive award format. The Raleigh, North Carolina native racked up 1.71 blocks/set in a 2-0 weekend for Cincinnati, highlighted by an eight-block performance in a victory at Tulane Sunday. Muldrow also had four blocks Friday at Houston. The Bearcats have opened the 2014 season at 10-4, eclipsing their win total from 2013 in September alone.
