SMU’s Adams and No. 21 Wichita State’s Lehman earn weekly volleyball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball honors for the week ending on Oct. 29.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brittany Adams * Jr. * OH * SMU
Adams and the Mustangs took down two top-four conference teams over the weekend to remain tied for second place with Temple. SMU defeated Cincinnati in four sets and swept ECU. Adams led SMU’s offense with 13 kills and four service aces to help the Mustangs earn their second win of the season over the Bearcats on Thursday. She then connected on 16 kills while hitting .364 on Saturday to help defeat ECU in three sets. Adams also had 22 digs through SMU’s two contests on the way to amounting averages of 4.14 kills, 3.14 digs and 5.07 points per set.
                      
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abbie Lehman * Sr. * MB * Wichita State21
Lehman earns her second consecutive weekly honor after being named last week’s Offensive Player of the Week.
The senior middle blocker was a force at the net over the weekend, totaling 15 blocks in Wichita State's two wins, averaging 1.88 blocks per set. Lehman had eight stuffs, a .415 hitting percentage, along with a career-high 22 kills in a 3-2 victory over UCF on Friday. She carried the energy into Sunday’s 3-0 win against USF, hitting .625 with 11 kills and another seven blocks. The Shockers have won 12 in a row and are undefeated in conference action. In addition to her blocks, she averaged 4.12 kills and 5.25 points per set.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL   
Kia Bright * R-Sr. * OH * UCF
Bright had a well-rounded weekend, earning two more double-doubles. She had 17 kills and 11 digs in a narrow five-set loss to Wichita State on Friday. The senior outside hitter then put down another 18 kills and 13 digs, while hitting .378 in a 3-0 win over Memphis on Sunday to earn her league-leading 16th double-double.

Abby Williams * Jr. * DS * Cincinnati
Williams bumped the most digs for a Cincinnati player all season when she recorded 31 in a sweep victory over Tulsa on Saturday, setting a new career-high mark. On Thursday, she recorded 16 digs against SMU, averaging 6.71 digs per set over the weekend.

Kyra Coundourides * Sr. * S * Temple
Coundourides paced Temple’s offense to another 2-0 weekend on the way to increasing the Owls’ winning streak to seven in a row. Averaging a double-double of 39 assists and 12 digs per match, she assisted on 42 points and notched 12 digs in the 3-0 win over Houston on Friday. She then set another 36 assists and bumped 12 more digs in Temple’s sweep victory over Tulane on Sunday.
 
Dana Westfield * R-Fr. * OH * Temple
Westfield averaged 4.50 kills per set with a .383 hitting percentage over the weekend in the Owls’ two sweep victories. The freshman had 14 kills while hitting .333 against Houston and recorded 13 kills with a .444 hitting percentage against Tulane. Temple is tied for second place in league standings with SMU.
 
Taylor Horsfall * So. * DS/L * Tulsa
Horsfall continued to put up impressive numbers in the back row for Tulsa after averaging 7.17 digs per set this weekend through just six sets played. She had 18 digs in a 3-0 win over ECU and 25 against Cincinnati—two top-four teams in the conference. Horsfall entered the weekend ranked in the nation’s top-five in both total digs and digs per set.
