- Both Wichita State
24 and SMU earned their fifth straight wins to stay at the top of the league standings with 5-0 records through Friday’s action. Ten teams will return to the court for five more matches on Sunday, Oct. 8.
- ECU is off to its best start to an American season after defeating Temple for the first time in program history. The Pirates snapped a six-match series setback to the Owls with a 3-1 victory in Philadelphia, Pa. ECU has won three of its last four, as they join Temple with a 3-2 conference record. Three Pirates reached double-digit digs, as Brandee Markwith led the back row with 21 and had three service aces. Bri Wood hit a career-high 18 kills for the Pirates with a .366 hitting percentage, as Lael Ceriani added a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs to the win. For Temple, Izzy Rapacz earned her fifth double-double this year with 18 kills and 14 digs.
- Cincinnati earned its fourth conference win after taking down UConn in four sets on the road. The Bearcats dropped the first set, 24-26 but won the next three with three of the four sets coming down to the final two points. Carly Nolan had 18 kills to lead Cincinnati, while Erica Kostelac hit a .353 with 14 kills. The Huskies were led by Kayla Williams who put down a match and season-high 21 kills with 10 digs for her eighth double-double. Emma Turner had the most assists in the match with 43. UConn’s Ally Barrett had 16 kills, while hitting .312.
- Wichita State
24 picked up its fifth straight win with a sweep victory over Tulane in New Orleans, La to remain undefeated in American action. The Shockers averaged a .351 hitting percentage with Tabitha Brown and Alex Koon each hitting over .300 with double-digit kills. Koon hit a .500 with 10 kills and just one error, as Brown notched 14 kills with 10 digs for her sixth double-double this season. Emily Hiebert had 38 assists and 10 digs.
- Houston earned a conference sweep victory for the first time since Nov. 13, 2015, defeating Memphis for the first time in two seasons in three sets at home. The Cougars earn their second league win of the season, as Sarah Afflerbaugh, Megan Duncan and Brianna Gardner each had 10 kills to lead the way.
- SMU joined Wichita State in staying at the top of the conference standings with a 5-0 record after winning 3-1 against USF at home. The Mustangs dropped the first set but won-out the final three to capture their fifth straight win, while holding the Bulls to hitting just .071. Lauren Mills earned her league-high 11th double-double this year with a match-leading 15 kills and 12 digs. Kendall Patterson added 47 assists to the win for SMU. Doris Carter and Reagan Davey each had 11 kills to lead USF.
- Tulsa snapped a three-match losing streak, coming out on top in a five-set thriller over UCF at home. Both teams are now 2-3 in conference play. Taylor Horsfall recorded 44 digs, setting a new match-high across the conference this year. Her back row performance is good for ranking second all-time in the league. On the offensive end for the Golden Hurricane, Emily Thorson registered her seventh double-double this year with a season-best 22 kills and 12 digs. For UCF, Kia Bright had a season-best 21 kills and 17 digs and now shares the conference-lead of 11 double-doubles this season with SMU’s Mills.
