NEW ORLEANS - Running back Dontrell Hilliard rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries and Tulane finished with 488 rushing yards in the Green Wave's 62-28 win against Tulsa Saturday morning at Yulman Stadium.
The game, which had originally been scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, was moved to 10 a.m. due to the threat of Tropical Storm Nate. But the Green Wave was ready to play from the outset as Hilliard's first TD came on Tulane's third play from scrimmage and was set up by a 51-yard run by quarterback Jonathan Banks on the opening play of the drive.
Hilliard added touchdown runs of 23, 17 and 43 yards to lead a group of four Tulane players with at least 68 rushing yards. Banks ran for 93 yards and a score, Darius Bradwell had 71 yards and a TD and Sherman Badie went for 68 yards.
Banks also completed 9 of 13 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown, a 69-yard strike to Terren Encalade.
The win lifted Tulane to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the American Athletic Conference.
Tulsa saw freshman quarterback Luke Skipper throw for 256 yards and a touchdown in relief of starter Chad President. Running back Shamari Brooks rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Hurricane (1-5, 0-2).
