Highlights

• UCF started the season with a 10-2 run-rule victory over Florida A&M in six innings, but were unable to carry the momentum over to the nightcap against Pittsburgh in a 6-0 defeat Friday at the UCF Knights Invitational. The Knights saw junior Courtney Rotton pace the squad with three hits, while freshman Aubrey Johnson delivered a pair of base knocks and drove in two runs at the UCF Softball Complex.

• East Carolina began its 2017 campaign Friday at the Red and Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. with pair of losses to Syracuse and Winthrop inside Turner Softball Stadium. The Pirates dropped a 9-6 decision to the Orange before falling to the Eagles by an 11-6 margin. Senior outfielder Kacie Oshiro produced a two-hit, two-run and three-RBI effort in the setback to the Eagles.

• Houston spilt a pair of decisions, falling 4-3 in eight innings to Wright State and picking up a convincing 14-2 five-inning run rule over UC Santa Barbara to kick off the 2017 season on Friday at Cougar Softball Stadium as part of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational. Senior Shelby Miller paced the Cougars offensively going 4-for-7 with two home runs, one double, eight RBI and three runs scored across the two games.

• Memphis started the 2017 season off with a perfect 2-0 record after rallying in back-to-back games against Georgetown and FIU Friday afternoon. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh against the Hoyas to win by a score of 2-1 before overcoming a two-run deficit to defeat FIU by a 3-2 margin. The wins Friday mark the first time since the program’s inception in 2006 that Memphis has started the season 2-0. Kyler Trosclair went 3-for-6 from the plate with an RBI and a walk. She drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning against Panthers.

• No. 25/24 USF went 2-0 in season opening action, defeating Illinois State 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Thursday before dropping Delaware 6-4 on Friday at the USF Softball Stadium. Kristen Wyckoff led the Bulls offensively going 4-for-5 at the plate over the last two days. Rookie Bethaney Keen's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh vs. the Redbirds was the first walk-off homer in her career, at any level.

• Tulsa had two comeback efforts fall just short on Friday afternoon at the Hillenbrand Invitational as they fell to Fordham 7-6 and Northwestern 3-2. The Hurricane out hit their opponents in both games, but left 15 runners stranded in the doubleheader. Shelby Estocado and Julia Hollingsworth each recorded a pair of hits vs. the Rams. Hollingsworth also went a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate against the Wildcats.
