University of Houston Athletics Softball 02.15.17 Cougars Down Houston Baptist, 3-1 Follow @American_SBall Houston defeated Houston Baptist, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Cougar Softball Stadium. With the win, the Cougars improved to 3-4 overall, while HBU fell to 2-3. Sophomore Brooke Vannoy carried the load offensively for Houston, accounting for all three RBI. The native of Sugar Land, Texas, collected her first home run of the 2017 season with a two-run shot to left center in the bottom of the third inning and added an RBI single in the sixth as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Sophomore Presley Bell improved to 2-1, scattering nine hits and one run in tossing her second complete game of the season. After two scoreless innings from both teams, Vannoy’s long ball put Houston up 2-0. Freshman Sarah Queen led off the bottom of the third with a single to center field before trotting around in the next at bat. Vannoy helped the Cougars tack on another run with a one-out, RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Juniors Kaylin Crumpton and De’Zha Scott walked and singled to open the frame.
