UCF and Houston pick up Big wins on the Road

UCF earned its first road victory on Wednesday afternoon by topping Florida Gulf Coast, 5-1. Junior centerfielder Megan Greenwell registered three RBIs and notched her first-career triple that drove in two runs at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The fifth complete-game of the season was notched by freshman hurler Alea White , who improved to 3-4 on the campaign for UCF (7-6). The Land O'Lakes, Fla., native did not allow an earned run and only surrendered five hits against FGCU (8-7)

In a matchup of in-state foes, North Carolina scored a pair of first-inning runs on the way to a 4-0 non-conference victory over East Carolina Wednesday evening at the ECU Softball Stadium.
 
Houston handed No. 5/5 Texas A&M its first loss of the season behind a complete-game, 1-0 shutout from sophomore Savannah Heebner on Wednesday night at Aggie Softball Complex.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-11 overall, while the Aggies fell to 15-1. The win also marks Houston’s first win over a ranked opponent since an 8-5 victory against No. 19 Baylor on April 12, 2016, and is the first shutout of a ranked opponent since a 3-0 victory over No. 23 Tulsa on May 10, 2013.
