UCF freshman designated player Aubrey Johnson rose to the occasion in the American Athletic Conference opener and went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a sac bunt to lead the Knights over Houston, 5-3, on Friday evening at the UCF Softball Complex.
Another complete-game victory was notched by freshman Alea White , who improved to 9-8 on the season. The Land O'Lakes, Fla., native fanned four batters and put up five-consecutive zeroes on the scoreboard to seal the game.
Memphis earned an 8-2 victory over East Carolina to open up American Athletic Conference. The Tigers combined for 12 hits including four from Regan Hdley and three from Lindsay Crowdus to improve to 16-12 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Seven hits in the final three innings for Memphis led to six runs including a pair of triples by Hadley and Crowdus. Molly Smith notched her sixth victory of the season as she pitched a complete game for Memphis.
