Behind a complete-game shutout from sophomore Savannah Heebner, Houston downed UConn, 6-0, in the team’s American Athletic Conference’s home opener on Friday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 18-17 overall and 3-1 in The American, while the Huskies fall to 13-17 and 1-2 in league action.

A three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning by Tyler Johnson gave Memphis the edge they needed for a 10-2 run-rule victory over UCF Friday evening. The victory improves Memphis to 23-16 overall and 4-3 in the American Athletic Conference.

Memphis jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first and forced the Knights to make an early pitching change. In that inning came Regan Hadley's second home run of the season.

USF earned a 3-0 victory over East Carolina to open the series Friday afternoon. The Bulls improved to 22-19, 2-4 on the year while East Carolina fell to 19-21, 2-5.

Astin Donovan tripled, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kassie Moeller to put the Bulls up early in the first. After three scoreless innings, the Bulls plated a pair in the fifth to extend their lead.
