The American Today: UCF, Houston, and USF earn confernce wins on Saturday

UCF freshman Alea White tossed her second shutout in the circle to help the Knights even their series at Memphis with a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The rubber match between the two squads is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday.

The Land O'Lakes, Fla., native went the distance to move to 13-11 on the season and notched three strikeouts, while scattering nine hits. It was her second shutout of the season with the first, clinching the series at East Carolina (4/2).

Houston held off a seventh-inning comeback by UConn for a 6-4 win to clinch the series, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 19-17 overall and 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Huskies fall to 13-18 and 1-3 in league action.

USF rallied back from a four-run deficit, the largest of the season, in a 7-6 victory over East Carolina on Saturday. Junior Morgan Gross (Reno, Nev.) propelled the comeback victory with a three-run home run in the sixth inning.

A hot fourth-inning comeback by the Bulls tied up the game at four. With Astin Donovan (Guilford, Conn.) on base, Kassie Moeller (Fredricksburg, Va.) hit a two-run home run to put USF on the board.
