USF 9, East Carolina 7 Box Score Recap

With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, UCF junior centerfielder Megan Greenwell caught a fly ball and started a series-clinching triple play, securing a 10-6 victory Sunday afternoon at Memphis.

The initial throw to the plate was caught by sophomore catcher Cassady Brewer, who made the tag and alertly threw to third base. Junior Courtney Rotton caught the ball as the runner slid into the tag to complete the triple play.

Houston set the American Athletic Conference record with 22 runs scored in a 22-0, five-inning run rule of UConn to sweep the series, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

Houston's 22 runs are the most scored in a conference series matchup in The American and ties for the most ever scored by a league member. Former member Louisville (2014) also scored 22 runs in a five-inning, non-conference run rule over Ohio University on March 9, 2014. The 22 runs are also the second most scored in program history. Houston defeated Texas Southern, 25-0, in five innings on April 23, 2003.

USF  picked up its first sweep of the season, earning a 9-6 win over East Carolina in the final game of the series. The Bulls are now 24-19, 4-4 on the year, while the Pirates fell to 19-23, 2-7.

For the second straight game, the Bulls pulled off a comeback win, rallying twice to take the game. Down 2-0 in the third inning, USF would use a three-run homer from Bethaney Keen to take a 3-2 lead.
